R34 in Daikoku Futo
November 2016 - Grail.
Getting here was tricky to say the least, a few trains from Tokyo then a taxi but we made it. I think the next time I visit Tokyo I’ll probably rent a car and drive to Daikoku Futo instead, make the journey there and back a bit easier. By the time the meet finished it was pretty late so getting to the train station was difficult - shout-out to the cops in Yokohama for helping us get home.
Cars are special - they are an extension of the one who owns it. It is a way to express yourself. It is a way to go fast. It is a way to relax. I could go on and on. I love the fact that cars can bring together people from all walks of life - I’ve met a number of cool people through car meets and I am eternally grateful. The people of Daikoku Futo were no different, despite most of them not knowing English they were so welcoming. This is a place you must visit if you’re a petrolhead and are ever in Japan.
If we’ve ever had a conversation about cars I’m sure at one point or another I’ve mentioned that my favourite car of all time is the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R. It was probably a shit car meet by the normal standards of Daikoku Futo because of the rain - but the fact that there were still numerous R34’s there was everything to me. Like a kid in a candy store. You could literally have a show with a bunch of supercars on display but I’ll always gravitate towards the R34. There’s something about it that just makes me go “wow” every time I see it.
I will have my own some day soon.
